As usual, half of the Ann Arbor City Council is up for election this year, with the bonus of the Mayoral seat. Politicos continue to frame this race, as in past years, as a challenge to Mayor John Hieftje's Council majority, even though few of the races target incumbents.

  • Winner: John Hieftje, 69%
• First Ward: Sandi Smith vs. Ron Suarez (inc.) vs. Patricia Lesko Suarez has withdrawn, endorsing write-in Lesko.

• Second Ward: Tony Derezinski vs. Stewart Nelson
  • Winner: Derezinski, 60%
• Third Ward: Stephen Kunselman (inc.) vs. Christopher Taylor
  • Winner: Taylor, 63%
• Fourth Ward: Margie Teall (inc.)
• Fifth Ward: Vivienne Armentrout vs. John Floyd vs. Carsten Hohnke
  • Winner: Hohnke, 51%

As in Ann Arbor, the Ypsilanti City Council elections have been framed by some as part of an ongoing uprising against the Council majority.
