Ann Arbor was settled by predominantly German immigrants, and the area had more German restaurants up to the 1990s -- The Old German was downtown a couple blocks from Metzger's, and Leutheuser's was in Saline. As successive waves of immigrants have brought their cuisines with them, the dominance of German restaurants has faded. Now, only two remain.
