Inter-Cooperative Council

The Inter-Cooperative Council (ICC) is a student housing co-operative, founded during the 1930s to provide an affordable, community-oriented housing option for students. The ICC owns approximately twenty houses, all within walking distance of the University of Michigan's campuses, and has over 500 member-owner residents.

ICC co-ops range from smaller houses of a dozen members to the massive North Campus Co-ops, whose 150 members in two "houses" share a building. Each house is largely self-run, with its own constitution, bylaws, and officers; a Board of Directors made up of a representative from each house meets biweekly to make decisions that affect the whole organization. A General Manager and half a dozen other paid staff manage contracts, some maintenance projects, and member education from the Rochdale Center on William Street.
