This past weekend's shuttering of the popular Middle Eastern restaurant chain La Shish will not impact Charlie's La Shish in Pittsfield Township, owner Charlie Bazzi said Monday.

In fall 2006, roughly eight months after he opened the restaurant on the corner of Washtenaw Avenue and Carpenter Road, Bazzi separated his franchise La Shish from the parent company and renamed it Charlie's. Brisk sales had fallen steadily after chain owner Talal Chahine and his wife, Elfat El Aouar, were indicted on federal tax evasion charges.
