Rob Goodspeed is a 2004 graduate of the University of Michigan in 2004. At that point, his site The Goodspeed Update was one of the most prominant blogs in Ann Arbor; Goodspeed had previously resigned/been fired from the Michigan Daily over an editorial policy dispute, and brought his journalistic bent to blogging. He also served on Ann Arbor's Cool Cities Task Force.

After graudating, Goodspeed moved to Washington DC, where he served as an editor of the blog DCist and worked for People for the American Way.
