Sabra Briere is a long-time Ann Arbor resident and activist, most recently working to get the Lower Town Historic District created.

Briere won the August 2007 Primary election for the First Ward seat on Ann Arbor City Council in a three-way race that included John Roberts and Richard Wickboldt. In that primary, Briere polled 421 votes, compared with Roberts' 309 and Wickbolt's 178. In the First Ward, 4.91% of registered voters participated in the primary. The outcome of this primary in effect determined the successor to First Ward Councilmember Bob Johnson, who chose not to continue his service on Council. In the uncontested November 2007 election, 392 voters (2.34% of registered voters) from the First Ward went to the polls to mark their ballots for Briere, ballots on which only the uncontested First Ward Council race appeared.

Despite a long history with the Ann Arbor Democratic Party and similar organizations, Briere seemed to distance herself from the rest of the Democrats on Council during her campaign, with her campaign site promising that she would be "an independent voice on council".
