Ypsilanti Food Co-op
From ArborWiki
The Ypsilanti Food Co-op is a small, cooperatively-owned grocery store located in Ypsilanti's Depot Town. The co-op is open 9am - 9pm, 7 days a week, and is open to all shoppers, though membership brings a 2% discount, the ability to make bulk/case orders, and other perqs.
The co-op was started in 1975, and is now located at 312 N. River Street. As a co-op, it is member-owned and -run, and aims to bring healthful (whole, organic, ethically produced, etc) foods to the community. Attractions include milk from Calder Dairy; tofu from Rosewood Farms, in Ann Arbor; bulk grains, flours, legumes, and spices; free-range eggs; and bread baked fresh three days a week next door at the River Street Bakery, which is owned by the co-op and shares the building.
The co-op is partially powered by a solar panel array on the rooftop, which was paid for by a $6,000 grant from the State of Michigan. Details (pdf): http://www.trustygetto.com/blog/blogfiles/Final_2005_760w_solar.pdf
